History of Hotel Fidder

Our hotel is located in three stately mansions that were designed in 1905-1906 by the leading architect G.B. Broekema from Kampen. The buildings were built in rich Art Nouveau style. They are located on Koningin Wilhelminastraat in the quiet Veerallee district, within walking distance of the historic center and the station. The Koningin Wilhelminastraat and the parallel Prins Hendrikstraat were the first streets of this “elite neighbourhood”. Both streets are characterised by pure Art Nouveau architecture; all fourteen buildings on the Koningin Wilhelminastraat have been designated as national monuments because of the unique contiguous Jugendstil buildings.

In 1984, Hennie Fidder bought one of the houses and established a guesthouse there. Less than a year later, it was given the status of hotel. In the years that followed, the two adjacent buildings were added and all three were renovated in their original style. Hotel Fidder grew into a luxury three-star hotel with 23 unique, stylishly furnished rooms, where the atmosphere of yesteryear has been preserved. Guests from all over the world enjoy a princely stay here in a special ambiance.

Safety & Emergencies

Important telephone numbers

Emergency number (police, fire brigade, ambulance): 112
Police (non-emergency): 0900 – 8844
Doctors' centre (GP weekend/holiday): 0900 – 333 6 333

Reception (internal from your room): 200
In case of accident or medical emergency

In case of an accident or medical emergency, we request that you contact reception immediately (extension 200). There is always an employee present in the hotel with a BHV diploma (company emergency response) who can provide first aid.

Preventing theft

We advise you to always lock the door properly when leaving your room, to prevent theft. Also use the safe in your room (the key for this is available at reception). In case of theft, the police will be called immediately.

Fire safety

Your stay in a hotel means that you are less familiar with the surroundings. If a fire or other emergency occurs, evacuation can be more difficult than at home. We therefore ask you to pay attention to a few important safety tips:

Upon arrival (preparation): Study the escape route map on your floor. Look where the nearest emergency exits and manual fire alarms are located. Count the number of doors between your room and the emergency exit – this can help you if you have to escape in smoke. Never smoke in your room (the hotel is completely smoke-free). Always hand in your room key at reception when you leave the hotel; in the event of an emergency, we will know who is still inside.

Stay Calm, if a fire breaks out.

Fire in your room: Leave your room immediately, close the door behind you and alert the company emergency responder via a manual alarm in the hallway. If possible, also alert reception immediately (extension 200).

Do not leave your room: Only leave your room if it is safe to do so. Take your room key with you in case the escape route is blocked and you need to go back to your room. Try not to take any valuables with you and close the door behind you. Stay low to the ground to avoid smoke while escaping.

Check the door: Use the back of your hand to feel the door to your room before opening it. If the door is cool, push it open carefully and crawl out through the nearest exit. If the door is hot, do not open it! Stay in the room, close any gaps under the door with wet towels or sheets and close any ventilation openings. Call 112 to report your location. Go to the window and, if necessary, draw attention from there to call for help.

Always follow the instructions of the hotel staff and emergency services.
Your safety is our top priority.

Patrick’s Whisky Bar

Behind beautiful en-suite doors with antique furniture, a fireplace, a library and a conservatory overlooking the garden, lies the beating heart of our hotel: Patrick’s Whisky Bar. This bar has become a household name in Zwolle and far beyond. More than 1000 whiskies are displayed in the cabinets – an eclectic collection of rare old bottlings, new independent bottlings, old blends and official distillery releases. Since 2017, Patrick’s Whisky Bar has even been an official partner bar of the renowned Scotch Malt Whisky Society, which guarantees unique tasting experiences. Host Patrick is happy to share his passion with you. He sees tasting whisky as reminiscing about memories and moments – drinking whisky is an experience and emotion. Not sure which one to choose from our wide range? Patrick will gladly take you on a journey of discovery and help you find a whisky that suits your taste. Are you looking for a whisky adventure? Then you have come to the right place! Opening hours: Patrick’s Whisky Bar is open daily from 07:00 to 24:00. You can come early in the morning for a fresh cup of coffee or tea with something tasty, and later in the day for a good glass of whisky, another drink or a snack.

Highlights of Zwolle

Zwolle is a beautiful historic Hanseatic city with much to see and do. Some highlights that we highly recommend:

Museum de Fundatie (Blijmarkt 20): Art museum with a large collection and changing exhibitions of famous artists from the past and present. An iconic building with a striking dome ("the Cloud") on the roof.

De Peperbus / Onze Lieve Vrouwe Basilica (Ossenmarkt 10): This 75-meter high church tower - popularly called Peperbus - is the symbol of Zwolle. The tower has a carillon with 51 bells. You can climb the Peperbus (236 steps) for a beautiful view of the city and surroundings. The basilica is located at the bottom of the tower.

Boekhandel in de Broeren (Achter de Broeren 1-3): A unique bookstore located in the beautiful Gothic Broerenkerk from the 15th century. In this atmospheric bookstore, modern interior and historical elements go hand in hand. Not only can you go here for books and coffee, but you can also admire the old murals and vaults that survived the Beeldenstorm.

Sassenpoort (Sassenstraat 53): One of the best preserved medieval city gates in the Netherlands (built in 1406). The imposing Sassenpoort, built from more than 100,000 bricks, served as a defense structure, prison and archive over the centuries. Visitors can climb up a spiral staircase to walk over the battlements and imagine themselves in earlier times. A monumental piece of history!

Het Zwolse Balletjeshuis (Grote Kerkplein 13): In this authentic shop, which has remained virtually unchanged since 1845, the famous Zwolle balls are made and sold. These are hard butter sweets made according to a secret recipe, a true Zwolle specialty. In addition to the balls, you will find a large assortment of old-fashioned Dutch sweets such as massee, polka chunks, cinnamon sticks and various types of liquorice. Step inside and taste the nostalgia!

Dinoland Zwolle (Willemsvaart 19): A fun day out for families with children. Dinoland is a dinosaur-themed play and activity park, with both an indoor and outdoor area. Children can enjoy themselves on the climbing equipment, play mini golf, search for fossils and of course admire dozens of life-size dinosaurs. Fun, educational and delightfully active!
